Categories of Parking Facilities

Restricted

These parking lots are identified by the color red and a letter designator on the campus parking map as well as the sign at the entrance of each restricted lot. These lots are restricted by an automated gate controlled barrier. A programmed parking permit is required for access into the lot.

General Parking Lots

These parking lots are identified by the color yellow and a 100-series number on the campus parking map. They are available for parking on a first-come, first-served basis to only those individuals displaying a valid University of Denver parking permit. Permits are required 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays and when school is not in session, or unless otherwise indicated by traffic control devices.

Visitor and Short Term Parking

These parking lots are identified by the color green and a 300-series number on the campus parking map. They are intended for short term use by visitors to the campus. Long-term users are expected to obtain an appropriate parking permit for a fee. Several types of parking facilities are available in this category:

    • Metered parking. These facilities are controlled by a conventional parking meter. All users must pay to park in these spaces from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 7 days a week, unless otherwise indicated. The time allowed is limited to a maximum of 3 hours, excluding short-term meters. Each meter contains a sign indicating the denomination and number of coins required to operate such meters. Parking permits are not valid in these areas unless specifically indicated on the permit.
    • Central Pay Stations. These facilities are controlled by a central pay station location. All users must pay to park in these spaces from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 7 days a week, unless otherwise indicated. The time allowed is limited to a maximum of 5 hours. Each station contains instructions indicating the methods of payment accepted at that station. All stations produce a receipt, which must either be placed on the vehicle dashboard or retained as proof of purchase. Parking permits are not valid in these areas unless specifically indicated on the permit. NOTE: Pay stations do not give change.  Please use exact change. Please note instructions at the pay station.

University Service Vehicles Only Areas

These areas are strictly designated for University-owned service vehicles actively engaged in service or maintenance of University property. These motor vehicles must display a University logo seal on the vehicle door or a valid University Service Vehicle permit from the rear view mirror.

Loading Zones

Loading zones include any area designated for loading and unloading by traffic control devices or the loading dock area of any University owned or controlled building.

University vendors may park in loading zones in the course of their business. Vendor vehicles should have permanent vehicle markings identifying the vendor company. Vendors in unmarked vehicles must obtain a temporary loading zone parking permit from the Department of Parking Services.

University Departments may obtain loading permits from Parking Services by contacting our offices prior to their needed use.

Loading zones have a maximum time limit of 20 minutes and are restricted at all times unless otherwise indicated by traffic control devices.

Pedestrian walkways and sidewalks may not be used for loading and unloading without prior explicit permission from the Department of Parking Services.

All vehicles using a loading zone area shall activate the vehicle emergency flashing lights to indicate the process of loading and unloading.
