Dealing with the loss of a loved one is always incredibly difficult; it makes no difference if the loss was expected or sudden. Our thoughts turn away from day-to-day necessities; emotions strike at odd times; thoughts about the future seem to flee.

We any student who ha lost a loved one to submit a Pioneers Care Report as soon as possible. SOS will make certain that all offices/faculty are contacted.  Regardless of your status on campus, you have the resources of the Health and Counseling Center (303-871-2205 or info@hcc.du.edu), as well as the University Chaplain (303-871-4488 or gary.brower@du.edu], to which you can turn. Both can help with immediate needs and, if necessary, help you find appropriate off-campus resources.

Additionally, we want you to know that there are policies in effect at DU that will help support you in terms of time away from studies and/or work responsibilities. The full policies for students and employees (including allowable time away and who to contact) can be found in the side-bar to the right.  Briefly, those provisions are:  students, faculty or staff will be excused from class (or work) for funeral leave in the event of the death of a immediate family or household member for up to three work days for an in-state funeral and five work days for out-of-state.
