In today's competitive marketplace, it can be hard for a business to stand out, particularly amidst the noise of social media, email blasts, pop-up windows, television commercials, magazine ads, street-corner sign holders and in-app teasers! How does a business truly get noticed – and remembered – by the people it's trying to serve. Join former 9News anchor and small business-owner Kyle Dyer as she introduces you to the power of storytelling and how it can take your business from obscurity to profitability.

No matter what your business's goals – from a nonprofit cause to a for-profit tech service – your growth requires that you connect with people. And the very best way to do that is through a story. But finding your business's story can be tricky. In fact, as Kyle will share, many businesses don't truly understand their story because they've never shared it before. Often, businesses simply say, "We offer this product" or "We provide this service," but they never get to the heart of the story that will set them apart from the competition.

Join Kyle in this two-part, six-hour workshop to learn the importance of your organization's story and how to tell it. Using in-class exercises and group work, Kyle leads each person through a process that "reveals the why." Why does your business offer the products or services it does? Why do you care about what you do? Why is this work important? Once you've figured out your story, tell it to others in the workshop and see if it connects with them. Also, learn how to listen to the cues around you that will help you continuously refine your story; listen to customers and employees to learn if a piece of your story isn't being told!

Finally, once you know your story, where should you tell it? Kyle offers tips for sharing your story in bite-size pieces on social media, your website, blogs, email blasts and more. She also shares the power of video, including tips for how you can use equipment you already own to create your own video story. Come away with a new understanding of your business's story and the power it has to impact your bottom line.

Instructor Bio: 

Kyle Dyer came to Denver as a 20-something news anchor and was a leader in that position for 18 years. As her two daughters grew older, the 1 a.m. wake-up call for her morning show became more difficult, so Kyle changed her schedule to be more present at home. During her final two years at 9News, Kyle anchored the station's mid-day news programs and also sought stories about people and programs in Colorado that make a profound impact. The stories were very well received on air but even more so online. Now, through her new business, "Kyle Dyer Storytelling," Kyle is partnering with local businesses and individuals, groups and foundations to tell stories about their impactful programs. She calls what she does generative journalism: generating news to build community.
