Systems Theory in Action: Book-Based Exam

Online, self-paced
Access to course content will begin on July 6, 2020.
Enrolled students will have until December 11, 2020, to complete course material.

Students will complete an exam on Shelley Smith-Acuña’s Book Systems Theory in Action.

About the book:
With a majority of systems theory texts focusing solely on the field of family therapy, it can be difficult to see the application of systems theory in an individual therapy context. Systems Theory in Action takes an innovative approach by viewing systems theory as a model for general mental health practice. Drawing from her extensive experience as a teacher and a clinician, Dr. Smith-Acuña uses real-life examples to illustrate the basic components of systems theory. Written both for the student and the experienced clinician, this book weaves together the foundational ideas from general systems theory, family therapy, couples therapy, and individual therapy to demonstrate systemic thinking. Systems Theory in Action emphasizes viewing the client's presenting problem through a systemic lens in a way that is applicable to a variety of therapy settings.

The book can be purchased through John Wiley and Sons.
