First Year and Transfer Student Registration

Advising at DU

At the University of Denver, undergraduate students have an advising network that includes support from faculty/staff academic advisors and career advisors.

New Student Advising – Summer before enrollment

  • Over the summer, all incoming students are assigned a staff academic advisor or academic program advisor to support them with selecting their first fall quarter classes.

First-Year Advising- Fall/Winter/Spring

  • First-Year students are required to enroll in a First-Year seminar (FSEM) for the fall and the instructor teaching their selected FSEM serves as their faculty mentor and primary advisor during their first year at DU.
  • Whether students are exploring their options or have clear professional goals in mind, we encourage them to meet with their career advisor to ensure they are taking the steps necessary for professional success.

Second Year Advising – Graduation

  • In their second year through graduation, students meet with their assigned faculty academic advisor or program academic advisor in their declared major of study for primary advising and support. If a student is still exploring their major options, then they meet with their assigned staff academic advisor in the Office of Academic Advising for guidance.
  • With the support of their career advisor all students should continue to clarity their interests, develop their post-graduation goals, and create an action plan to meet their goals.
