Professor Jenson Receives Two Prestigious National Appointments

Jeff Jenson, the Philip D. and Eleanor G. Winn Professor for Children and Youth at Risk, recently received two prestigious national appointments.

Jenson was elected this month to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW). He also has been appointed to a four-year term as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research, the flagship journal of the Society for Social Work and Research. 

AASWSW was established in 2009 as an honorific society of distinguished scholars and practitioners dedicated to achieving excellence in the field of social work and social welfare. The Academy encourages and recognizes high-quality research, informs social policy, promotes dissemination of effective and impactful programs and policies, and celebrates excellence in social work and social welfare research, education and practice.

AASWSW is leading the Grand Challenges for Social Work initiative, a national call to action for the social work profession aimed at defining and solving the nation's most difficult social problems. Jenson, who was inducted into AASWSW in 2011, chairs the steering committee for the Coalition for the Promotion of Behavioral Health that is working to ensure healthy development for all youth, one of the 12 Grand Challenges the initiative is addressing.

Created in 2009,the Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research publishes rigorous empirical research that advances knowledge useful for designing social programs, developing innovative social policies, and improving social work practice.The journal is published quarterly by the University of Chicago Press.
