Work-Study Orientation and Networking Fair

The Work-Study Orientation and Networking Fair will be held in the Driscoll Ballroom on Saturday, September 7th. The Networking Fair is an informal meet and greet for Work-Study supervisors and incoming undergraduate, transfer and graduate work-study students. Attending the Fair is a great opportunity to recruit work-study employees. The Fair will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please register on the student employment website if you plan to attend!

Work-Study Handbook/HR Hiring and Orientation Checklist

Our 2013-14 Work-study Supervisor Handbook is now available for you to read and download. The handbook explains the work-study program policies, hiring process, provides a biweekly payroll calendar, time entry procedures, and much more. Please read and familiarize yourself with our new handbook! Human Resources has also created a Hiring and Orientation Checklist to help you navigate through the new hire paperwork policies and preparing students for their first day and beyond!

Work-Study Supervisor Training

Our next Work-Study Supervisor Training is scheduled for Thursday, August 15th from 10:00 – 11:00 am in Sturm Hall 353. Registration is through DU – Training & Development on PioneerWeb under the Banner Financial Aid Work Award Training link. We will review posting positions on the student employment website, hiring students through PioneerWeb, monitoring awards throughout the year, merit increases, performance evaluations and time entry.

Lunch & Learn

Our second presentation of Start off Right: First Day and Beyond for Student Employees is scheduled for August 27th from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. Bring a sack lunch and listen to Aimee Neu from Human Resources discuss how first impressions are everything! Learn how to prepare for the first day/first week– this is important in retaining and engaging student employees. Registration is through PioneerWeb. Click on the Employee tab; scroll down and on the lower right under Training, click on Management and Supervisory to register. We also have trainings on Conflict Resolution and Performance Reviews available to register for.

Lastly, I will be out of the office recovering from foot surgery for the remainder of July. I hope to return the week of August 5th – physician approval pending. While I am out – please contact Vicky Gillen, Financial Aid Specialist (ext. 1-6795) at victoria.gillen@du.edu. Vicky works part-time – if you are unable to reach her and need immediate assistance, please contact Shawn Murphy, Senior Associate Director of Compliance (ext. 1-4857) at shawn.murphy@du.edu.

Enjoy your summer!
