February: Parent & Family Weekend

Parent & Family Weekend 2019 will be February 22-24.

Events are designed to have activities you and your student can enjoy together, such as tours of major Denver attractions, fun historic bus tours in the city, Hockey games at Magness Arena, tours of the bell tower, and family meet-and-greet events.

We also provide suggestions for many other things to do in the Denver area and on campus. See our suggestions for Popular Denver Attractions, On Campus Events, and Local Restaurants you can visit next time you're here.

See a copy of the 2018 scheduled activities for Parent & Family Weekend to get an idea of what we did last time. This event changes every year so check back in November to see what we have in store for our February 2019 event.

June: Commencement

Congratulations to the parents and families of graduating students! For details about commencement activities, instructions for students, merchandise, and more, please visit the DU commencement website https://www.du.edu/commencement

September: Orientation

Transitioning into college is one of the most exciting times of your student's life. It can be both thrilling and challenging. During Parent and Family Orientation, several presentations and resources are available to help families learn about academic policies and requirements, and how to support their student's academic, physical, and emotional health.

Parent & Family Orientation is an event separate from your student's orientation experience. For 2018, Parent & Family Orientation will be on Monday, Sept 3 and Tuesday, Sept 4. You must register to attend this program. Registration is $25 per person (there is no charge for siblings 9 years and younger). Your DU student will not register for this event, as they are attending the Discoveries Orientation program for which they will automatically be registered, and their programming has no registration fee.

Parent & Family Orientation registration is now open. Follow this link to register.

To get an idea of some information shared with parents and families during orientation, here are some of the presentations that took place during previous years:

Holistic Learning: Your Student's Cultural and Intercultural Experience

Holistic Student Development: Facilitating Student Success

Navigating Orientation and an Introduction to the Division of Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence

October: Homecoming

Parents and families, alumni, current students, and DU community members are invited to connect and celebrate Homecoming & Family Weekend in October. Our University partners are working hard to develop the exact dates for this event. We will post that information here as well as in our newsletter and sending email messages.

To give you an idea of what to expect during this event, Homecoming & Family Weekend 2017 included Hockey, Pio-Palooza, Taste of DU, and a Parent Panel on Studying Abroad. A full schedule of events will be published after fall move-in.

Information and contact info for questions about this event can be found at http://homecoming.du.edu/
