Medical Reentry Process at a Glance

As set forth in the Medical Leave of Absence and Reentry Policies, a student who desires to return to the University following a Medical Leave of Absence, Retroactive Drop for Medical Reasons, or Tuition Refund for Medical Reasons, must complete the following steps:

Retroactive Withdrawal for Medical Reasons

Students who submit Incomplete Medical Leave Applications or submit applications after the last day of the term will be referred to the Academic Exceptions Committee. The student must complete and file a petition through Pioneerweb. For more information, please follow this link: https://www.du.edu/uap/_resources/

(NOTE: Medical documentation must reflect that the students had a consultation – either in-person or virtually via tele-health – with the treating physician, licensed mental health provider, or other licensed healthcare provider during the term for which the student requests the retroactive withdrawal for medical reasons.

Non-Medical Leave of Absence and Reentry

Students withdrawing from the university that plan to return to their studies at the University of Denver need to meet with an advisor in the Academic Advising office in addition to following the withdrawal procedures outlined above. Students will withdraw following the instructions at this link.

Policy Information: Students can elect to withdraw from classes and take a Leave of Absence for up to one year. After withdrawing from classes, students fill out a Leave of Absence form each year to be considered as a continuing student at DU. After five years away from DU, students may no longer extend their leave of absence using this process. Students that have been away from DU for five years or more have to completely re-apply to be admitted to DU through the Office of Admission.

Students who have taken a leave, have withdrawn from DU, who have left DU without formally withdrawing or who have been academically suspended, need to submit a re-entry form prior to resuming their studies.

Students returning from a conduct suspension must also complete a re-entry from conduct suspension form
