Housing

The images of houses show some of the basic amenities available to mining families. The small structure in the back was a privy or outhouse. Most of the housing in this period still had little to no indoor plumbing. Fencing and retaining walls defined the rental property of miners and their families. The walls limited erosion and gave some organization to neighborhoods.
