Relations With Strikers

Many of the Colorado National Guard troops, including those of Company K, were from the Denver, Colorado area and were urban professionals, such as lawyers and students. These troops usually had favorable relations with the strikers. Other guard members, such as Lt. Linderfelt, were former sheriff's deputies, mine guards, or hired guns. Their goal was not to keep the peace, but to protect coal company interests. This goal often led to more hostile relations with the strikers.
