Boundaries

National Guard troops held some fear of the strikers. They feared strikers would attack them, especially the Greeks who they identified as veterans of the Balkan Wars. This wariness created a boundary between strikers and the National Guard. The National Guard may have controlled the areas outside of the strikers' colonies, but inside them, the union and the strikers held total control. The National Guard did enter the strikers' colonies repeatedly to conduct searches and harass and intimidate the strikers. However, violent attacks on strikers and their families occurred mainly outside of the strikers' colonies. The tent on the right is the location of the union's doctors' tent.
