The isolation of the region and the lack of permanent infrastructure meant the strikers were forced to bring in most of their resources such as food, coal, and water. Strikers used a well southwest of the colony to collect water. In this photograph, a striker removes barbwire from the well placed there by Lt. Karl Linderfelt of the National Guard. Linderfelt claimed strikers placed the wire across the road by the colony to trip his men on horseback. When one of his troopers was tripped, he order the wire placed in the well.
