This class is now offered once each quarter. The information covered will be helpful to anyone who needs an introduction to the Banner system. The class covers general Banner concepts, navigation, functions, toolbar buttons, and Banner search techniques. There will be an overview of FERPA (privacy of student information). For those who will be using Banner Finance forms, there is a brief overview of the Finance Fund/Organization/Account/Program hierarchy here at DU.
If you are unable to attend one of the instructor led training sessions, there is a Banner Navigation tutorial available for your use. You can find it in webCentral on the Training Channel of the Banner Tab, or from the course descriptions in the Training Channel of the Employee Tab.
Finance
To register to attend, please login to webCentral and select the training channel of either the Banner Tab or the Employee Tab.
Finance Purchasing – This class covers information necessary for creating electronic purchase requisitions.
Finance Direct Pay Invoices – The first hour of this class will cover the basics of creating a Direct Pay Invoice. The second hour is more advanced concepts, including Travel Advances and Reconciliations. You are welcome to come for the entire class, or just the part of the class that meets your needs.
Finance Cash Deposits / Journal Entries – This class includes training for processing Cash Receipts and Journal Entries. We will also cover doing basic journal entries.
View Finance Overview – This is brief budget overview training for DU employees who need to keep an eye on the budget, but have others in your area who have more responsibility for reconciling transactions. We will look at the Banner Self-Service product as well as the Banner forms which show similar information.
View Banner Finance – This is an advanced class for Banner users who use DU Reports and have budgetary responsibility. You must attend Banner Navigation in addition to the Banner finance transaction classes before attending this class. There are many inquiry screens in the Banner system which give fairly comprehensive budget information - we look at budget overview in addition to drilling down to the transaction level. Additionally we will show you how to access similar information over the web. Finally, there is a discussion on the Approval Queue process. If you are looking for training on viewing grant information, please contact ORSP.
Finance Reduce Encumbrances – This class covers information necessary for reducing encumbrances, as well as some procedures for general finance "clean-up". There will be a brief presentation followed by an open lab, so bring some of your own work along to class.
ORSP Grants / Proposals – Please contact the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs if you are interested in this training.
Human Resources / Payroll
To register to attend, please login to webCentral and select the training channel of either the Banner Tab or the Employee Tab.
Human Resources– Attending the class will provide you with the information necessary to complete the HR paperwork for employee changes or new hires. We will discuss the appropriate paper forms you will need to complete the different types of tasks, and we will look at the Banner forms that you will need to view to obtain the information needed to complete the paperwork for employees.
Department Time Entry– Attending the class will provide you with the information necessary to enter employee's time, and approve time. This class is only offered to those persons who have been granted the Banner security to enter / approve time.
Banner training: Student
To register to attend, please login to webCentral and select the training channel of either the Banner Tab or the Employee Tab.
Update General Person Forms / Data Entry Standards – This training includes the University of Denver Data Standards guidelines as well as the process for inserting and/or updating demographics data in the Banner system. NOTE: This class is mandatory for anyone who wants update access to these forms.
View Student Information – This class covers information about student information: viewing student schedules, class lists, student holds, registration overrides, course history and degree information. We will also look at some of the reports that are available.
Banner Student Workshop / Update Advisors – In this class we will view advisor records already in the Banner System and we will learn to update advisor records for the current academic term. The last part of this training will be a lab where you will be able to update records for your own students. As this training is a workshop format, you will need to have the Banner Security in place to update SGAADVR prior to coming to class, and it will be most helpful to you if you will bring along some of your own work to do in class.
Banner Graduate Assistantships – In this class we will view assistantship records already in the Banner System. We will learn to update assistantship records for the current academic year. The last part of this training session will be a lab where you can update the assistantship records for your own students. The Graduate Studies Office does tracking on this information, therefore it is required that a representative of each department enters GRA/GTA data into the Banner System. This training is offered only in July and August of each year.
Update Registration – This class covers information about updating student registration, viewing student schedules and class lists. If you are interested in attending this class, please contact Claudia Walinder, Associate Registrar.
