Installing Symantec Anti-Virus
The University of Denver has purchased Symantec Anti-Virus, which combines virus protection& malware defense for all student computers in the effort to minimize the impact of viruses and malware in our community. These instructions will guide you through installing Symantec Anti-Virus.
Before you begin, VERIFY THE FOLLOWING:

Windows Vista (English) with Service Pack 2 OR Windows XP Professional (English) with Service Pack 2 OR Windows XP Home (English) with Service Pack 3 is loaded on your computer. If you are unsure, or need to install the Service Pack, please refer to the document “Configure Windows Automatic Update.”

You have no Antivirus software installed on your machine. You have completely removed any existing Antivirus software from the computer.

You have your DU ID and Passcode: Your DU ID is a unique 9-digit number beginning with 87. Your Passcode is initially set to your birthday: MMDDYY. If you do not have this information, please call the Registrar’s office 303.871-2284, or email registrar@du.edu.

Step 1: Download Symantec Anti-Virus
Connect to the Internet. Using Internet Explorer, go to the following site:
https://taurus.cair.du.edu/downloads/
Confirm whether the download page has detection your Operating System correctly:

The “Download Symantec Antivirus” window appears:

Fill out all fields for the above window.
Note: If you do not have this information, please contact the Registrar’s office 303.871.2284, or email registrar@du.edu.
Click “Download” and Save the file on your Desktop or your Downloads folder.
Step 2: Install Symantec Anti-Virus

Locate the “savWin32” or "savWin64” icon on your Desktop or your Downloads folder, and double-click on it. Windows will present you with a security warning:

Click "Run" and Windows will configure Symantec Endpoint Protection for your system:

Step 3: Run Symantec LiveUpdate
The “LiveUpdate Express” window appears automatically after the installation:

"LiveUpdate Express" automatically connects to the LiveUpdate servers and downloads the most up-to-date antivirus and antispyware definition files:

After the most up-to-date antivirus and antispyware definition files have been downloaded and installed on your system, the “LiveUpdate Express” will alert you that your LiveUpdate session is complete:
Click “Close” to exit LiveUpdate.
