Dial-up Instructions

  • First, you need to get to Network Connections by going to Start , Control Panel , Network and Internet Connections , and then to Network Connections .
  • There, you'll need to click on Create a new connection , in the upper left hand corner of the window.

After clicking on Create a new connection , the New Connection Wizard will pop up to prompt you for information. Once you have read the info, click on the button.



At this screen, select Connect to the Internet .

Next, select Set up my connection manually , so you can enter in the DU Dial-up settings.

Next, select Connect using a dial-up modem .

Next, enter "DU 2-Hour" for the name
of the dial-up connection, under ISP Name .

Next, enter the phone number of the ISP.
Note: Windows XP knows which area codes require 10-digit dialing.

Next, enter:

  • The username and passcode for the computer. Then confirm password.
  • The username for DU Dial-up will be the user's
    Banner ID.
  • The passcode will be 6 characters (same as for DU email).


Make sure, before finishing the New Connection Wizard , the "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" box is checked, making it easier for the user
to dial in to DU.

If your modem is v.92 capable, the following steps to enable the "Modem-On-Hold" feature:

  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options .
  • Click Modems tab, select your modem, and click Properties .

  • Click "Modem On Hold" tab, and check the box "Enable Modem On Hold."
