Below you will find the MINIMUM and RECOMMENDED laptop specifications for laptop computing at the Engineering departments (ECE/MME). These specifications should be used as guidance when making decisions on bringing a laptop to DU ECE/MME.

MINIMUM specifications are for those who are choosing not to buy a new laptop and want to bring an existing one to DU.

RECOMMENDED specifications are for those who are choosing to purchase a new laptop and need guidance on which specifications to go with.

PLEASE NOTE:
1. Windows laptop is STRONGLY
 RECOMMENDED as most of our Engineering software are Windows-based.  Dell Latitude E6320 or Dell XPS 13 is recommended

2. Netbooks are NOT acceptable as they don’t have enough computing power to run Engineering software.

3. MACs are not recommended, but if students are really interested in purchasing a MAC (or already bought a MAC), it is required to also purchase the following software to install on the MAC:
a. Parallels Desktop for MAC (
www.parallels.com) or VMWare Fusion (www.vmware.com)
b. Windows XP Pro or Windows 7
If you need assistance from the UTS Computer Help Center (2100 S. High St. 303-871-4700) in installing Windows on a Macintosh computer, please allot at least 3 hours for your Help Center visit.
