Gaining access to the DU Wireless Network via SSL/Web VPN with Internet Explorer 6 SP2 or Internet Explorer 7

Software Requirements:

  • Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 (Windows Vista is not supported)
  • Internet Explorer 6 SP2 or Internet Explorer 7
  • A working wireless Internet connection
  • A DU ID (or special guest account ID - @guest.du.edu) and a passcode

These instructions are intended for conference guests and users who have administrative rights to their computers to install software. If you are a non-Windows XP or a Macintosh user, you can only take advantage of DUnet VPN, which requires the installation of Cisco software.

SSL/Web VPN may require Java Runtime from www.java.com on non-Internet Explorer browsers.

Connect to DU Wireless:

1. Connect to DU Wireless in Windows XP SP2.

2. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the URL: https://ivpn.du.edu

Note that you may encounter a wireless warning page before establishing your VPN connection.

3. Login with your DU ID or temporary guest ID in the form of id@guest.du.eduEnter your passcode.

Click Login.

4. Click OK to continue.

5. Click on the information bar and select Install ActiveX Control.

6. Ignore the pop-up window and check the box Do not show this message again.

Click OK.

7. If this is the first time using SSL VPN, click Install.

Click Install

8. Wait for the installer to complete. This may take a few minutes.

9. The SSL VPN Client setup screen appears. Wait for installation to complete.

10. The SSL VPN Client is installed and is showing in the system task bar.
