Welcome to the start of the 2017-18 academic year! In an effort to keep you informed of upcoming important dates, announcements, and policy changes, we'll be sending you a financial aid update once each quarter. If you ever have have a question about the information included in these emails, please don't hesitate to contact us. In this update:
Fall Quarter Disbursement of Aid and Refunds The fall quarter tuition bill is due on September 1st. On that date, your student's financial aid for fall quarter will disburse to his or her student account and will pay toward current charges—as long as all financial aid requirements are satisfied. In order to receive financial aid, your student must:
Expecting a refund? If the amount of financial aid that disburses is more than the total of your student's charges, a refund will be generated by the Bursar's Office on Tuesday, September 5th. Students who have direct deposit can expect to see that refund in their bank account on September 6th. An important note about new students: Learn more about billing and disbursement >> Authorized Users for DU Pay If you would like the ability to access your student's tuition account information, be sure to have him or her add you as an authorized user through DU's Online Payment Portal, DUPay. Authorized users can view account balances, make payments, and access bills and payment history. For more information, visit the Bursar's Office website.
Access to Student Information The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) prohibits the University of Denver from releasing a student's financial aid records to anyone—including parents—without the student's written consent, regardless of his or her age or who is paying the student's bills. While we are happy to assist you, we cannot discuss your son or daughter's financial aid without his or her written consent. Students who wish to release their information must complete a Release of Confidential Student Record Information through PioneerWeb. For more information, review the FERPA Guide for DU Families and Frequently Asked Questions from the DU Registrar.
Smart Loan Borrowing We encourage you to speak to your student about smart loan borrowing, and to help ensure he or she is only borrowing what is absolutely needed for the 2017-18 academic year. Before classes begin, utilize the Estimated Billing Worksheet to help determine the amount due each quarter (this worksheet works best when opened in Internet Explorer). Then, use the Federal Student Aid Repayment Estimator to estimate future monthly federal student loan payments under each repayment plan. By helping your student monitor borrowing while still in school, you can be sure there won't be any surprises at graduation.
