  • The Center for Middle East Studies (CMES) is dedicated to promoting and strengthening the study and understanding of the societies, political systems, and international relations of the Middle East and broader Islamic world, both at DU and throughout the Mountain West. Housed within the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, the Center seeks to generate scholarly research and foster public understanding of this critical and changing part of the world.
  • The Colorado European Union Center of Excellence(CEUCE) aims to promote research, reflection and policy analysis on a series of EU and transatlantic relations issues. The Center will offer a speaker series, international conferences, and workshops featuring expert practitioners and academics on a host of issues, including: the impact of the financial crisis on the Eurozone, the EU-US relationship, the future of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the causes of globalization and its consequences for national economic organization both in Europe and beyond, and many more.

Its award-winning faculty are experts in security issues ranging from climate change and nuclear security to global governance and post-conflict peacebuilding. By involving students in its research, cultivating relationships with national and international policy and thought leaders, and bringing top-level discussions to Colorado's Front Range, the Center aims to advance policy-relevant research and mentor the next generation of global leaders.

Initiatives

African Initiatives is a project born out of an effort to establish a strong regional emphasis for students at the Josef Korbel School interested in African issues. Director Peter Van Arsdale, in conjunction with the School's Students for Africa, created a dynamic infrastructure that connects students to organizations, in Denver and points beyond, that are performing important work to bolster Africa's positive growth.
