Construction progress

Announcement  •

Friends,

I hope you’re all settled into the familiar and comfortable routines of a new school year. What is less familiar, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, is the construction happening around campus. First, I’d like to thank you for patiently managing the inconveniences that are inevitable side effects of change, especially change to our physical spaces.

Second, I want to share with you the exciting reason for all this construction: The Denver Advantage Campus Framework Plan, DU’s vision for the future of our campus.

This past May, we presented our preliminary ideas. Today, I am excited to share the complete Denver Advantage Campus Framework Plan. Over the next 20 years, the Framework Plan will serve as a flexible and agile guide, evolving to meet the needs of the entire community while also honoring our history.

The physical spaces where we work, study and live should support our goals and intentions. The Denver Advantage Campus Framework Plan addresses how this campus can best position us to achieve the vision outlined in our strategic plan, DU IMPACT 2025.

And the first phase of the Framework Plan is currently underway. We’ll soon begin construction on three new buildings designed to improve the DU student experience, foster belonging and connect the community: a new community commons, a first-year residence hall and the Pioneer Career Achievement Center. We’ve also taken steps to make DU a mobility hub with the ofo bike share and Chariot shuttle pilot programs.

To celebrate all we’re doing to transform campus and all we plan to do over the years ahead, on Friday, Oct. 12 at 11:15 a.m., we’re unveiling a new exhibit in the Mary Reed atrium hallway featuring The Denver Advantage Campus Framework Plan. The exhibit is a permanent installation that will be routinely updated as we move forward.

We are making real progress. So, let us all recognize the coming months’ “dust” as confirmation that DU is, and will always be, a great college town in the heart of the city.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Chopp
Chancellor
