Financial problems affect home-front, can destroy marriages
DENVER —
The Colorado Foreclosure Hotline has received 8,305 calls since January, 2008. That is 32 percent of the total calls the organization has received since its inception in October of 2006. In March, 4,000 Coloradans were forced into foreclosure according to Realty Trac.

Japanese-Americans and former internees to visit Amache Japanese Internment Camp in Granada, Colorado
DENVER —
Japanese-Americans, including former inmates, will tour Amache, the World War II U.S. government-run detention camp in Granada, CO July 3 and 6 where University of Denver (DU) anthropologists are conducting research to preserve the site. The tours are part of the Los Angeles-based Japanese American National Museum (JANM) National Conference in Denver July 2 - 6.

New study shows race significant factor in death penalty cases
DENVER —
New research by Scott Phillips, associate professor of sociology and criminology at the University of Denver, finds that in Harris County, TX the District Attorney (DA) was more likely to pursue the death penalty when the defendant was African American and less likely to pursue the death penalty when the victim was African American. The study, “Racial Disparities in the Capital of Capital Punishment,” will be published in the Houston Law Review this fall.

University of Denver volunteers serve homeless individuals and families at Project Homeless Connect 6
DENVER —
More than 680 homeless adults and 139 children—including 64 family units—were assisted with job opportunities, housing, child care, health care and other vital services today at Project Homeless Connect 6. The one-day event helped people overcome barriers to self-sufficiency by offering a full array of community services in one location.
