University of Denver Video Game Camp
While video games are a $12 billion a year industry, fewer and fewer American students are pursuing the math and science courses necessary to break into the field. That’s where a team of University of Denver professors is taking action, creating a two-week video game summer camp that draws dozens of high school students from across the country to campus each summer for intense lessons in math, computer programming, game design and art.
By the end of the session, each student has produced his – or her – own video game. Professors say they hope to foster an interest in science that will follow students to college and open new career paths. This year, for the first time, DU hosted a two-week camp for high school teachers, to show them how to engage young people in the sciences through the use of video games.
