Learning & Development

At the University of Denver, we take learning and development seriously, beginning with our students and extending to every member of the DU faculty and staff. As stated in the University's strategic plan, DU IMPACT 2025, we strive to "expand professional development opportunities, identify career ladders and training opportunities, promote family-friendly policies, create an environment of wellness, and continually invest in a compensation system that attracts and retains the best faculty and staff." Through ongoing learning and development, the University of Denver can continue to achieve its objective of being an exemplary employer.

Assessment & Consulting Services

Consulting Services

Talent Acquisition and Development offers consulting services and training for:

Assessments

The following self-discovery tools are some of the more popular assessments being used across campus for greater understanding of self and others.

Manager-360 Assessment

Manager-360 is a powerful free assessment tool with an important purpose — to harness the power of multi-faceted perspectives in identifying strengths and weaknesses and developing performance among managers.

Managers have a unique and often limited perspective when it comes to their employees. Manager-360 assessments give managers the ability to gain insight into their strengths and potential growth areas from the people who work most closely with them (including their own managers, peers, and subordinates).

Guided by one-on-one coaching sessions throughout the assessment process, managers use the insight they gain through feedback to develop an action plan for enhancing their managerial performance.

Program Guide

Team Climate Survey

We provide team assessment for units, departments, and even divisions. We will work hand-in-hand with your group to assess whether this was the best course of action, and then administer the survey and consult with your team regarding the results.

DiSC Assessment

The DiSC assessment is a self-discovery tool to help you learn your preferred behavioral style. The DiSC assessment helps identify how people prefer to behave and communicate. It measures your response to challenges, how you get things done, your influence on others, and how you respond to rules and procedures. DiSC is made up of four basic styles (Dominance, Influence, Conscientiousness, and Steadiness) and is used by an estimated 75% of Fortune 500 companies. DiSC can help improve work productivity, teamwork, and communication. It is non-judgmental and helps people discuss their behavioral differences.

CliftonStrengths

Learn your top five signature strengths, what they mean, and how to leverage them for professional and personal success with a workshop or one-on-one debrief from CliftonStrengths. Participants will first be asked to complete an online assessment and review an action planning guide. Assessments cost $24.99 per person and will need to be covered by the individual or the division requesting the assessment.

Mentor Program

HRIC's Mentor Program began in 2014 to support the personal, professional, and career-related development of faculty and staff members as they navigate significant transitions in knowledge, work and thinking. Mentoring is a developmental and mutually beneficial relationship in which all DU employees are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Benefits of mentor program participation include:

  • Career development
  • Increased productivity
  • Access to resources, contacts, support, feedback, and a fresh perspective
  • Enhanced onboarding support
  • Leadership development
  • Improved job performance
  • Accelerated learning
  • Expanded social circles and professional networks
  • Insight into career paths at DU and beyond
  • Skill development

Mentor Program Guidelines

  • The mentor/protege relationship is voluntary and should be beneficial for both parties.
  • It is recommended that you meet a minimum of three times during a three-month period (if possible). How, where, and when you meet is up to each mentoring team.
  • The mentor's advice and opinions are their own and do not necessarily represent those of the University of Denver.
  • It is the responsibility of the protege to drive this process. This means understanding what you hope to accomplish with a mentor, initiating meetings and asking for what you need.
  • It's imperative to spell out expectations around confidentiality and trust in relation to your mentoring relationship.
  • Keep your commitments to each other. Show up for scheduled meetings on time and notifying each other of cancellations ahead of time.
  • Include a "no-fault" provision for ending the mentoring relationship.
  • Define what a successful mentoring relationship looks like for both parties.
  • Prepare to enjoy the mutual benefit of participating in an intentional professional development experience.

Mentor Process

  1. Prospective mentors must first submit a mentor application.
  2. Once accepted, the new mentor will be listed on the Current Mentors Across Campus page.
  3. Current mentors will be contacted when a prospective protege requests working with them.

Mentee Process

  1. Prospective protege first chooses two potential mentors from the Current Mentors Across Campus page.
  2. Prospective protege then completes the protege application.
  3. Once accepted, proteges will be contacted by the People Development team to go over the program, answer any questions, and confirm their mentor choice(s).
