Applying for Aid

Determine your eligibility.

The University of Denver provides substantial financial aid distributed amongst students with a wide range of family income levels. With the information collected through the FAFSA and the CSS PROFILE, we're able to take into account the entire financial situation of your family when determining your eligibility for need-based aid.

Steps to Apply for the 2012-2013 Academic Year
  1. Apply for admission to the University of Denver (if not already admitted). We cannot process your financial aid application until you are officially admitted to the University. Please submit your application as soon as possible.
  2. Complete the CSS PROFILE for 2012-2013. This application is used to determine your eligibility for institutional aid. If your parents are divorced or separated, the Noncustodial Parent PROFILE must also be completed.
  3. Apply for a U.S. Department of Education PIN , if you do not already have one from a previous year. Students and parents should both have their own PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN, the site listed above will help you retrieve it. You will use this PIN every year you apply for financial aid and to complete Master Promissory Notes for Federal loans.
  4. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2012-2013. This application is used to determine eligibility for federal aid. We strongly encourage you to use the IRS data retrieval process when completing your FAFSA. Using this process will quickly transfer your 2011 tax return data directly into your application, and may prevent you from having to submit further documentation from the IRS. If you plan to submit the FAFSA using estimates before filing your 2011 tax return, please revisit www.fafsa.gov to correct your FAFSA--using the data retrieval process--once your tax return has been accepted.
  5. New undergraduates only: Submit all verification documents to College Board. Once you have completed steps 1-4, you will receive an email from College Board with information about your IDOC (College Board's Institutional Documentation Service) requirements. Print and mail your IDOC Cover Sheet and other requested materials directly College Board. Learn more about IDOCs.

You may estimate your income and taxes for 2011 on the CSS PROFILE and FAFSA until your tax returns are completed. Please note, however, that new students need to submit all additional information to IDOC by March 1st to receive full consideration for all types of aid, so be sure to file your taxes as soon as possible! Continuing students who have been selected for verification need to submit the additional requested documentation by April 1st. Provided the application is complete, new students can expect to receive their financial aid award letter via email in late March. Continuing students will receive them via email in late May.
