Types of financial aid available

Academic scholarships (merit-based)
  • Eligibility
    A limited number of academic scholarships are available to entering first-year and transfer students. You can receive academic scholarships and grants either through the admission process or from individual academic departments.
  • Award amounts
    Merit awards range from $3,000 to full tuition. Most scholarships for first-year students range from $9,000 - $18,000 per year.
  • How to apply
    You are automatically considered for merit scholarships when you apply to DU-no need to submit additional applications. To be considered for departmental scholarships, contact your academic department.
Talent scholarships (merit-based)
  • Eligibility
    You may be eligible for a scholarship for outstanding achievement in everything from music, theater and art to athletics and forensics.
  • Award amounts
    Vary.
  • How to apply
    Contact the coach or department directly.
Financial aid (need-based)
  • Eligibility
    Eligibility for needs-based grants or loans is based on each student's current financial circumstances.
  • Award amounts
    Loan and grant amounts vary. Your financial aid award may include funds from a variety of sources, and most awards are renewable if you continue to meet eligibility requirements.
  • How to apply
    Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You'll also need to submit the CSS Profile if you are a first-year or transfer student.

Many financial aid programs have application deadlines (see financial aid timeline), so it's important to get started right away. To begin, select your undergraduate program:

DU's financial aid timeline
  • October 1:
    Earliest date to file the CSS Profile and CSS non-custodial parent form (if applicable).
  • January 1:
    Earliest date to file the FAFSA application.
  • February 1:
    Priority deadline for Early Action applicants to submit FAFSA and CSS PROFILE.
  • Mid-February:
    DU begins award notification for Early Action admitted students (who meet February 1 deadline).
  • March 1:
    Priority deadline for Regular Decision applicants to submit FAFSA and CSS PROFILE.
  • Late March:
    DU begins award notification to admitted students.
  • May 1:
    Deposit deadline for all students.
