Summer Link to College

About

In April 1998, the VIP Program received a three-year grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation's "Keeping Kids in School" Program. This allowed VIP to expand its efforts at Denver West High School. Summer Link to College was developed as a week-long summer residential program for rising high school juniors as an introduction to college life and university courses, as well as community and cultural experiences. The students attend classes designed for them taught by University professors, motivational workshops and education and cultural field trips during their stay in the residence halls a DU.

Today, participants are from our partner schools (and schools in relationship with VIP). They are selected through an application process which includes an essay, teacher recommendation, and school transcript. Summer Link continues as one of VIP's most popular programs. This year, Summer Link has expanded to 80 students from our partner schools. The wide diversity of students enhanced the experience for everyone and provided opportunities to form friendships beyond the school boundaries.

Our Summer Link application is now open!!

Summer Link to College will accept up to 10 current sophomores from each of our partner schools to spend five days on the beautiful University of Denver (DU) Campus and give them a “taste of college life.” Summer Link is an introduction to college life featuring classes with University of Denver professors and cultural activities.

Students will experience

  • Intensive academic classes taught by DU professors
  • Workshops in leadership, financial aid, time management, study skills, and how to prepare for college and your future
  • Cultural field trips
  • Residence hall living and meals
  • Interaction with DU/VIP student leaders coordinating the Summer Link to College program
