The Middle School Link to College (MSL) encourages students to pursue higher education through a variety of workshops. Students are selected by their teachers to participate in the Volunteers in Partnership (VIP) program. The program works with students at Kepner Middle School.
The goal of the program is to prepare the students for the future. Workshops such as "Education & Opportunity," 'Health & Fitness," and "Study Habits," are just some of the workshops from which the students benefit. Before the end of the academic year, MSL students are invited to spend a day at the University of Denver campus to expose them to the college experience. They benefit from sample classes presented by a DU professor. The schedule also includes a panel of DU VIP students who answer questions from the students' perspectives, a physics workshop and concludes with a tour of the campus and the opportunity to enjoy lunch at one of the dining facilities in the residence halls.
We recognize our students' achievements by awarding them certificates for their accomplishment, and gifts donated by several local businesses in our community. Interesting topics encouraged the participation of the students throughout the year, and they are excited to be part of the VIP program for years to come.
