Panel Discussion on the Sand Creek Massacre

Date: Thursday, February 26
Time: 5:30 - 7:00pm
Location: Sturm Hall 251

Please join us for a panel discussion on the Sand Creek Massacre. Panelists will discuss the art historical significance of the work on display in One November Morning as well as the ongoing impact of the massacre on Cheyenne and Arapaho communities, in light of the DU Evans Report.

Panelists will include:

  • George Curtis Levi, Cheyenne Artist
  • Brent Learned, Arapaho Artist
  • Nancy Wadsworth, DU Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Evans Committee
  • Billy Stratton, DU Assistant Professor of English
  • John Lukavic, Associate Curator, Native Arts, Denver Art Museum

"Looking Up: DU's Eminent Women"--A Networking Event with Women Executives at DU

Date: Tuesday, March 3
Time: 4:30-6:00pm
Location: Garden Room, Women's College (Chambers Center)

The Graduate Women's Council invites all graduate students and members of the Women's Coalition to attend a networking event with the Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) featuring guest speakers who serve as executive officers at DU, including Shelly Smith-Acuna, Dean and Professor of the Graduate School of Professional Psychology, Nancy Sasaki, Associate Dean and Lecturer of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Michele Hanna, Associate Dean and Professor of the Graduate School of Social Work, Julie Reeves, Associate Vice Chancellor of Marketing and Communications, and Nancy Allen, Dean and Professor of University Libraries. These women will share with us their stories of how they got into the positions they occupy today and the barriers and successes they faced along the way. In the wine and appetizer reception following, attendees will have the opportunity to network with these guest speakers as well as other members of the WLC.

Women's Self Defense Class

Date: Sunday, March 8
Time: 12:00 - 2:00pm

Come experience women's self defense, awareness and empowerment class lead by Diana Ninomiya. Diana has been involved with this type of service for many non profits and women's groups locally and nationally. Her no nonsense approach encourages and empowers women to trust their instincts and techniques to stay safe in harmful situations. In the past, Diana has worked security as a single mom for some of the nations largest venues. She is now working on her 2nd degree black belt and deepening her yoga practice.
