2nd Fall 2014 Town Hall:
Sexual Assault and Harassment — Where does DU stand?

The Student Coalition for the Eradication of Sexual Assault, with the support of the Women's Coalition, invite undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty to join in the this 2nd in our series of Town Halls. As a campus we have been working diligently to address issues of gender violence, and we still have work to do in promoting a safe and equitable community--you can be a part of the change! Join us in the second of our open conversations about the services and policies on the DU campus to address issues of sexual assault and harassment. Pizza provided!

While the primary target audience for this event is undergraduate and graduate students, it is open to any member of the DU community.

The Denver Women's Commission presents: "Women's Issues Roundtable Discussion"

On average, men in Denver earn $5,160 more per year than women, a fact reported by the Denver Women’s Commission and published in a recent report called Windows into Denver Women & Girls.  As a follow up, the Denver Women’s Commission is hosting a Roundtable discussion with community leaders to further address pay equity, affordable housing, economic self-sufficiency and other issues affecting Denver women and families. The Denver Women’s Commission hopes the conversation generates ideas that can be implemented to immediately impact the lives of women and girls in the City and County of Denver.

Film Screening of Half the Sky

Date: Sunday, October 19th and Sunday, October 26th

It is said women hold up "Half the Sky". This movie, based on the 2009 Kristoff and WuDunn book, is "... a passionate call-to-arms, urging us not only to bear witness to the plight of the world's women, but to help to transform their oppression into opportunity. Our future is in the hands of women everywhere" (IMDb.com)  The movie features stories from the book and commentaries by Nick Kristoff, America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Olivia Wilde, and others. Bring a friend or family member...all are welcome! The four hour film will be shown in two two-hour viewings.


5th Annual Half the Sky Fair

Date: Saturday, November 1st
Time: 11:00am to 6:00pm
Location: Colorado Women's College

The  Half the Sky Fair  is a philanthropic festival dedicated to the education of women and girls here and around the globe. Past proceeds have gone toward a scholarship for international women and to support girls in CWC's sister school in South Sudan.  Designed to highlight and support the role education plays in reversing poverty and fighting oppression, the Fair is both educational and entertaining and will feature a Silent Auction and an International Market featuring exhibitors and vendors dedicated to the empowerment of women and girls.
