Job Classification

All employees at the University of Denver are classified by three attributes of their position. Because different rules, policies, benefits, etc. apply to different employees in different ways based on their position's attributes, it is useful to know the attributes associated with one's position.

Every employee is either appointed or non-appointed.
An employee is appointed if the job announcement to which they applied listed their "Appointment Status" as "Benefited."

An employee is non-appointed if the job announcement to which they applied listed their "Appointment Status" as "Non-Benefited."

Every employee is either exempt or non-exempt.
An employee is exempt if he or she is paid an annual salary as listed on the University of Denver Position Description document provided to the employee by the hiring manager.

An employee is non-exempt if he or she is paid an hourly wage as listed on the University of Denver Position Description document provided to the employee by the hiring manager.

Every employee is either staff or faculty.
An employee is staff if the job announcement to which they applied listed their "Job Category" as "Staff."

An employee is faculty if the job announcement to which they applied listed their "Job Category" as "Faculty."

Examples of the Three Attributes
All union employees are appointed, non-exempt, staff.

All coaches are appointed, exempt, staff.

All adjuncts are non-appointed, exempt, faculty.
