Nineteen: Looking Forward to a Great Year

Dear DU community,

Welcome back to a new term; we are off to a great start. The energy across campus is palpable. Move-in can be stressful and emotional for our newest community members and their families, but wherever I went during move-in, I saw nothing but smiles, pride and excitement. I feel deeply grateful to be a part of this incredible community, and I am looking forward to the new academic year with great optimism.

And wow, there is a lot to look forward to in the coming months and year.

The 4D Experience

Kennedy Mountain Campus

This year, our first-year and transfer students are participating in an exciting new DU tradition. Over the course of the fall term, they, along with their peers and assigned 4D peer mentor, will take their First Ascent to the Kennedy Mountain Campus.

They will spend a weekend being inspired by the Rocky Mountains, exploring, making those lifelong friendships that are critical to belonging, honing leadership skills, and being reflective about how they want to design the rest of their DU experience.

Civil Discourse at DU

We will soon announce a very exciting new program out of the Korbel School of International Studies, Denver Dialogues, that will bring the kind of informative, respectful, and challenging learning we know makes a strong community and which prepares our students to thrive in a diverse world. Look for more info soon.

Sustainability

Over the summer, the carbon neutral task force was hard at work, and we are now kicking off the search for our new University Sustainability Officer. I look forward to sharing updates on these and other steps forward in our quest to become a carbon-neutral and plastics-free institution.

Allied Health

DU is exploring how we can expand our teaching in the allied health space. From dieticians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and more, the medical industry needs more highly trained, exceptional support for primary care and specialist physicians. As part of our Campus Framework Plan, DU sees an opportunity to serve the public good by becoming a world-class educator in allied health. More to come!

It's going to be a great year.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Haefner
