Past Event: Political Identity: The Story of You

C + V Community Talks

As the 2020 election draws near, we have heard countless times that we as a country are more divided than ever. Topics are divided along party lines, and honestly, it can feel overwhelming and disillusioning. But what if we slowed down and actually listened to each others’ stories and experiences? What if we tried to take the time to understand why someone believes what they do and how they experience the world? What if we created more spaces to listen, share, and be open to personal growth?

On October 29, 2020, C+V and DU DialogUes, in partnership with the Center on American Politics, invites the DU community to come together to watch a virtual fishbowl dialogue of participants that represent a broad range of social identities, political affiliations, beliefs, experiences, and cultures. This will not be a time for debate on hot topics or party ideals; rather, the viewers will watch the participants dialogue about the values and experiences that have shaped their political identities. Debates and arguments about politics prevent meaningful engagement by creating sides and shifting the focus away from people. By telling and hearing our stories, we can engage with politics without contention, which will better enable us to understand and empathize with each other. Join this event as a viewer, a rare opportunity with dialogues!

*Please note that this webinar will be 1.5 hours as opposed to the regular hour.
