Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN Installation for Windows Computers
A brief guide for installing and signing in to the GlobalProtect VPN client on Windows so you can securely connect to the organization’s network. It outlines downloading the installer, completing setup, and confirming a successful connection.
Before installing Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN, be sure that you have set up Duo MFA on your Office 365 email account. Please refer to instructions on setting up Duo
One-Time Windows Installation
1. Open a browser and navigate to https://vpn.du.edu.
2. If you are remote, you will have to sign into your DU account before you are able to download the installer.
- Enter your username (DU email) and password and click ‘Login’.
- Authenticate with DUO
3. Select the appropriate software to download from the list.
*Most Windows computers run 64-bit Windows.
*If you are not sure what version your computer is running:
• Select the Start button, then select Settings > System > About
• Under Device specifications, see System type.
4.Once downloaded, open the installer from your browser downloads or your default download location within File Explorer (most will be in the ‘Downloads’ folder).

5. Follow the prompts in the installer. Do not change the default installation location.
6. GlobalProtect will open in the lower right of your desktop near the system tray and clock. Left click on the globe icon to open the GlobalProtect interface.
*Note: If the globe is white/grey then the VPN is currently disconnected. If it is colored with a checkmark, then it is connected.
7. In the portal address, enter vpn.du.edu and click "Connect".
8. You will then be redirected to a browser to sign in again. Enter your email address and password and click "Login". You will then be prompted to verify your identity via Duo.

9. Depending on your browser, you may be prompted to allow GlobalProtect to open. If you see the pop up below, select ‘Open GlobalProtect’.
10. A connection is established once you see the ‘Connected’ window.
*Note: The first initial login may take about 90 seconds to complete. You may experience the VPN trying to establish a connection multiple times. During this process, the client is downloading additional configuration settings.
11. The GlobalProtect agent can be accessed in the system tray in the lower right taskbar of your desktop.
12. To disconnect from GlobalProtect, click on it from the system tray to open it and then click ‘Disconnect’.
13. Your setup is now complete. You can follow the instructions in KB0014240 on how to use the VPN on a daily basis.
