All incoming students receive dedicated support for first-quarter course selection from our Academic Advisors in the Office of Academic Advising.

Beginning the week of November 2nd, 2026 you can begin meeting with with an Academic Advisor. After you deposit with Admissions, you will receive an email to your DU email from an Academic Advisor intiving you to met with them. They will include a booking link for you to use. We’re here to ensure you start your journey at DU with confidence and excitement!

New Student Registration for Winter Quarter 2027 will start October 30th, 2026. Our Academic Advisors are excited to meet with you and ensure you’re ready to succeed.

Advising Period for Winter Start 

New Transfer & New First-Year Students: Starting November 2nd, 2026, students will receive an invitation from an Academic Advisor to schedule individual meetings to review credits and discuss course options.

Registration Period

Registration for Winter Quarter 2027 for new first year and transfer students starts October 30th, 2026. You must meet with an Academic Advisor first to have your advising hold removed.

Required Actions before Meeting with Academic Advising:

• Complete Discoveries Winter Experience - Academic Advising & Student Success Canvas Module

  The Canvas module (module 2) includes important information about the Common Curriculum, Academic Advising, and registration preparation. Allow at least 2 hours to complete this module. Taking your time with this module will set you up for success at DU!

  Log into to Canvas to begin the course.

• Take the Language Placement Test

  Language Placement test - Complete as soon as possible

  • Students who are continuing to study a language they started learning prior to DU take a placement test to determine their starting course level. Transfer students should speak with an Academic Advisor if they have transfer language credit and next steps. 
  • Some degree programs are exempt from the language requirement which includes the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and all Engineering degree programs. Students with these declared degree types do not need to take the proficiency placement test.
  • Contact cwlc@du.edu for questions regarding your placement test results. 
• Review Math Advising Document (Business & STEM Majors)

  Math Advising Document 

  • Document includes recommended math pathways based on major requirements for Business and STEM Major Students.
  • Guidance using prior coursework, standardized test scores, and self-assessed readiness.
  • Non-business and non-STEM students should review AI-Natural Requirements for the Common Curriculum. We encourage you to watch the Common Curriculum video to learn more.
• Review a Sample Course Plan

  Review a sample course plan for your major area of interest

• Verify we have Received your AP/IB Scores

  AP and IB results are received in large batches starting in mid-July. It can take a couple of weeks to process these scores and award the appropriate transfer credit. 

  To verify you’ve received your transfer credits, please log in to My4D > Student tools widget > My Student Profile > Prior Education and Testing (left-hand side), where your scores are displayed.

  If you have not requested your scores, please see directions below:

  • Request that your AP Scores (if applicable) be sent to DU through the AP Portal (school code is 4842) 
  • IB graduates (if applicable) request your transcripts be sent directly to University of Denver through the IB Portal.
