In Memoriam: Robert Christie “Bob” Mill
Dear DU community members,
We write with the sad news of the passing of Robert Christie “Bob” Mill, emeritus professor of the Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management at the Daniels College of Business. He was 78 years old.
Throughout his career, Bob was respected as an international authority in tourism, hospitality, and service marketing. Bob’s expertise in hospitality management, particularly in tourism, contributed to the foundational education of generations of DU hospitality students.
Over multiple decades of teaching at DU, Bob was described as a thoughtful, generous teacher with a sharp wit. His textbooks, including “Tourism: The International Business” and “Resorts: Management and Operations,” offered a definitive overview of the industry. The quality of his scholarship was widely recognized, and he served as a Fulbright Scholar in both India and Hungary. He was also a sought-after consultant, speaker, and workshop leader on tourism and destination marketing. Within DU, he spearheaded an effort for a divisional honors program for the Daniels College of Business. Bob earned his B.A. from the University of Strathclyde’s renowned Scottish Hotel School before earning both his MBA and PhD from Michigan State University.
Bob will be missed for his warmth, intelligence, humor, and his stories, which generated great respect for him as a teacher and colleague. To learn more about Bob, his life and his legacy, please see his obituary.
Please join us in conveying our warmest condolences to Bob’s spouse Patty, his family, friends, colleagues, and former students.
