The document shared by the Chancellor, prepared through a collaboration with the Fall Task Force, Creating a community care: An action plan for DU’s fall return to campus offers some course guidelines that can assist your fall planning. All these guidelines, listed below, are designed to make for a smoother path to a pivot. Keeping yourself and our students safe is the paramount concern. At the heart of these guidelines is providing a framework for designing a learning experience that allows for educational continuity, academic success, and minimizing stress.
Ready for Fall?
In Spring 2020, the following items were required to be Canvas-ready for an online term.
- Upload a Syllabus
- Create Assignments in Canvas to Accept Work
- Use the Gradebook
- Post Readings and Handouts
No matter which modality you're using this fall, new requirements based on Fall Task Force recommendations will help keep you and your students safe AND ready for a pivot, if necessary. See the Action Plan for DU's Fall Return to campus for more!
Canvas Presence for ALL Courses
All courses must have a Canvas presence. At a minimum, include the requirements above (Action Plan, p. 27).
Paperless Classrooms
In spring we recommended accepting student work in Canvas. The Action Plan reiterated that classrooms should be paperless. Handouts should be provided in Canvas and student work accepted there as well (Action Plan, p. 27).
Virtual Office Hours
To minimize exposure, office hours should not be held face to face (Action Plan, p. 27).
Contingency & Continuity Plan
For each course, faculty should share a continuity plan with their supervisor should someone else need to assume their teaching responsibilities. Each course syllabus should include a section where contingencies in light of COVID-19, including plans for providing content to students in case of absence or quarantine, are articulated (Action Plan, p. 27).
All Finals Online
No matter the course modality, all final exams should be delivered in Canvas (Action Plan, p. 27).
