Most Recent Updates

On October 9, 2026, the University of Denver announced its transition from Zoom to Microsoft Teams as the institution's enterprise collaboration, meeting, and video conferencing platform. The transition will occur over the 2026–27 academic year, with Zoom fully retired on June 11, 2027. Faculty, staff, and students can continue using Zoom during the transition period while accessing training resources, guidance, and support from Information Technology (IT) and the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL).

Teams will become the University's primary platform for virtual meetings, remote learning, and collaboration, offering deeper integration with Microsoft 365 tools such as Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint.

Course Delivery Impacts

Academic Year 2026-27

Beginning August 17, 2026, changes to Zoom licensing affect student-hosted Zoom meetings. Student-hosted meetings are limited to 40 minutes and cannot be recorded. These changes may impact group projects, study sessions, student organization meetings, and other course-related activities led by students.

Faculty and staff Zoom licensing remains unchanged at this time. Instructors may continue to use Zoom for teaching and course delivery; however, Zoom licensing will be terminated at the end of the academic year, and Microsoft Teams will become the University's supported video conferencing platform. Faculty are encouraged to begin transitioning their workflows and course activities to Teams during the 2026-27 academic year.

Planning for the Transition

Microsoft Teams is the recommended platform for student-hosted meetings that need to exceed the Zoom time limit or require recording capabilities. Teams also provides chat, file sharing, and collaboration tools through DU's Microsoft 365 environment.

As part of the university's transition to Teams, Zoom is expected to be retired after Summer 2027. Faculty are encouraged to begin exploring Teams for instructional activities and course-related collaboration to help prepare students for the future transition.

Telehealth Exception

Programs and services that rely on Zoom for Healthcare (Telehealth) will continue to follow university guidance and licensing provisions specific to telehealth and HIPAA-compliant use cases. Additional information regarding telehealth exceptions and approved practices will be provided through university and Information Technology communications as it becomes available.
