About the Office of the Provost

Our Leadership

The Provost’s Office is the hub for academics at the University of Denver, and the provost is often referred to as the chief academic officer.  

Provost Loboa and her team are responsible for the strategic direction and support of the teaching, research, and learning at DU. This is accomplished through the oversight of all DU’s schools and colleges and close collaboration and engagement with each dean. The office also manages faculty hiring, support, and tenure management and promotion. The provost and her team keep student success as core to their mission, championing work that supports student retention, high graduation rates, and the realization of DU’s holistic approach to teaching, the 4D Experience. Additional duties within the office include working closely with the Office of Budget and Financial Affairs and coordinating across the University to support faculty in their research development, publishing, and grant seeking.

About Dr. Elizabeth G. Loboa, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

Dr. Elizabeth G. Loboa joined the University of Denver as Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost in August 2025, bringing extensive experience in academic leadership. Prior to DU, she served for five years as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Southern Methodist University, where she proved to be a capable leader during uncertain times and helped the university achieve R1 Carnegie Classification with a 56% increase in student applications.

Previously, she served as dean and Ketcham Professor at the University of Missouri College of Engineering and held professorship roles in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. Dr. Loboa earned her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from UC Davis and her master's and doctorate from Stanford in biomechanical engineering and mechanical engineering, respectively.

Her leadership philosophy centers on faculty and student success, student learning outcomes, and fostering interdisciplinary education and research environments through data-driven and collaborative decision-making.
