About Our Program

Audition Requirements

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in music. They must complete the graduate application and submit a personal statement, two letters of recommendation, and résumé. Applicants must also complete an audition; please see the studio page for your instrument for the audition pieces.

Degree Requirements

The 55-credit master of music in Suzuki pedagogy has emphases available in violin and cello. The program includes lessons, ensembles, and coursework in pedagogy, music theory, and musicology. In addition, students must complete these non-coursework requirements:

  • One full-length performance recital
  • Final teaching demonstration
  • Final oral comprehensive exam
  • Demonstration of graduate-level proficiency in musicology and music theory proficiency exams
  • Convocation attendance
