Taxation

Sturm College of Law offers one of the nation's oldest, largest and most prestigious Graduate Tax Programs in the nation. Through the interdisciplinary nature of the LLM in Taxation program, law students learn both the legal process and accounting aspects of tax practice, preparing them for potential careers with accounting firms, as tax lawyers or as tax experts in the employ of a company or other organization. Students have the chance to add practical experience to their resumes through the Low-Income Tax Payer Clinic, as well as the Internship and Externship Program.

An LLM in Taxation is open to students who hold a JD degree, as well as those who are currently working on their JD at the Sturm College of Law. The degree provides students a chance to hone their legal knowledge through classwork based directly on the Internal Revenue Code and Treasury Regulations. Our Tax Challenge team also provides LLM students the opportunity to develop an analysis of a complex international or corporate tax problem. We've been remarkably successful in this competition over the last 20 years, placing first nationally six times, second eight times, and third four times.
