Professional Biography

I was born and raised in South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and am an enrolled citizen of the Oglala Lakota Oyate. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, but found my calling to higher education when I began working in Student Engagement. I received my Master of Science in Higher Education from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS. I am the mother to a teenage son and daughter who have kept me busy from day one. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and listening to music. I am an avid reader and love to cook.

I have spent my career working to empower Indigenous students on their educational journeys in the hopes of making that journey more fulfilling. My primary focuses have been on student engagement, recruitment, retention, and success. Prior to my position at DU, I served as the Director of Enrollment for Oglala Lakota College, located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation where I managed grants, created and implemented retention, recruitment, and completion initiatives, and served in a supervisory capacity to the eleven college centers associated with OLC. I strive to encompass my Lakota way of being into my work and encourage Indigenous students to find, nurture, and grow the scholar within. A piece of advice I would give to students considering college is to be prepared, plan, stay organized, and advocate for yourself. This is YOUR journey, so you lead the way!
