Good afternoon. I am glad to be here and grateful for an event that celebrates you—the graduate students who perform exciting research and who contribute in so many important ways to our academic community. You are the next generation of scholars, who will contribute to the academy and to your future professions in profound ways.

I want to extend my thanks to Albert McClure, Graduate Student Government President, for inviting me today me here today. GSG has been helpful to me during my first year and a half at DU, including during the strategic planning process. As graduate students, I think you have unique perspective both on the student experience and the directions research and teaching are heading. So, please, feel free to continue to share your thoughts with me, and look for other opportunities in the coming months to add your voice to this important conversation.

Meanwhile, I thank you again for the impact you have on our community through your research and scholarship. It is exciting to be around you, hearing of the work you are engaged in and the careers you plan to pursue.
