The goal of this course is for education professionals to learn how to integrate a compassionate and humane educational framework that helps students to critically think about and develop a holistic view of how humans, animals, and the environment all interact and impact our world. Social-ecological systems (SES), humane education, and other pedagogies and frameworks will be explored. You will also explore topics such as trauma-sensitive education, inclusion and belonging in the classroom, how bias and privilege affect education, and empathy development, all while centering human rights, environmental protection, and animal protection.
