Overtime Pay

The provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable state law govern compensation for overtime hours worked. Employees eligible for overtime pay must receive prior authorization to work hours beyond their regular schedule, including overtime, from their department or budgetary manager.

Overtime is time worked in excess of 40 hours in a workweek, 12 hours in a workday, or 12 consecutive hours without regard to the start and end time of the workday. Non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay at 1.5 times their hourly rate.

When calculating time worked for overtime purposes, time worked does not include paid time off, including but not limited to holidays, vacation and sick leave.
