Hello Friends,

We hope this message finds you in good health. Recently, I, Damon Vine, director of Veterans Services, and Arthur Jones, interim vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion (and a U.S. Navy veteran), sat down and discussed diversity in the veteran and military population at DU. As you are well aware, one of the most diverse populations is that of the veteran community. For this reason, the two of us would like to initiate the Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) at DU.

The reason we are reaching out is to recruit some founding members to help us write this group's mission and vision, identify other veterans in our DU community and bring some of their experiences at DU to the forefront of our employee involvement. We would also like to examine how faculty and staff with veteran identity or veteran ties can support our student veterans, active duty service members, reservists and dependents.

Employee affinity groups such as the VERG are supported through Human Resources and Inclusive Community (HRIC). On behalf of HRIC, Laura Maresca, Art and I would like to invite you to our kickoff event from 8–10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, on the fifth floor of the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science.

If you are interested in becoming a VERG member or wish to attend the kickoff event, please fill out this form.

Please note, the VERG is also open to dependents (spouses or children), interested family members or reservists, your participation is encouraged.

Thank you,

Arthur C. Jones, PhD, interim vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion; United States Navy
Laura Maresca, JD & SPHR, vice chancellor for Human Resources & Inclusive Community
Damon Vine, director of Veterans Services; United States Navy

The undersigned would like to encourage your participation in the VERG and look forward to seeing you at our kick-off event!

Mike Holt, interim director of campus safety; United States Air Force
James Rosner, P.E., associate vice chancellor of facilities management and planning; United States Air Force, disabled veteran
Keith Miller, interim associate provost for graduate education; United States Navy
Gareth R. Eaton, John Evans Professor; United States Navy
