Eight Colorado dance companies will debut new works at the Presenting Denver Dance Festival, taking place June 23–24, 2018, at DU’s Newman Center for the Performing Arts.

Co-presented by new local dance production company Presenting Denver and the Newman Center, the festival will feature world-premiere performances by Chadash Contemporary Dance Movement, Edgar L. Page, Gregory Gonzales, Hannah Kahn Dance Company, Helanius J. Wilkins, Kristen Demaree, 3rd Law Dance/Theater — a company founded by late DU mathematics and computer science professor Jim LaVita — and the Schiff Dance Collective. Additional dance activities will take place throughout the weekend.

The festival is a logical fit for the Newman Center, which has become one of Denver’s primary venues for dance artists in recent years. The center’s 2017–18 visiting artist series alone includes performances by the Martha Graham Dance Company, Spectrum Dance Theater, the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble and ODC Dance.

“As a regular presenter of dance, the Newman Center is thrilled to be partnering with Presenting Denver for their inaugural dance festival,” says Kendra Whitlock Ingram, executive director of the Newman Center. “This festival will not only showcase new dance work, but also will continue to build the audience for dance in Denver.”
