DU Appoints Vivek Choudhury Dean of Daniels College of Business
May 1, 2019 – University of Denver Chancellor Rebecca Chopp and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Jeremy Haefner announced today the appointment of Vivek Choudhury as dean of the Daniels College of Business, effective August 1, 2019.
Choudhury comes to the University of Denver from The George Washington University School of Business (GWSB), where he has been serving most recently as Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Professor of Information Systems and Technology Management. His previous positions at GWSB include Interim Dean and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs.
Prior to GWSB, Choudhury spent more than a decade at the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner School of Business (UC) in varying faculty and leadership roles, helping to raise the school’s profile and increasing graduate enrollment by more than 60%. He routinely helped to forge new partnerships with colleges around the world, emphasizing the importance of a study abroad education.
His earlier faculty positions were held at the Florida State University and the University of Pittsburgh.
During his tenure at GWSB and at UC, Choudhury prioritized access to business education and flexibility in curriculum. He led the development of new specialized master’s degrees, implementation of a new model for online MBA courses, and creation of new pathways for graduate programs. He also led significant restructuring of graduate admissions and advising, and the development of new models for community engagement. Notably, he focused on collaborative and innovative approaches to academic programming, including cross-college alliances, and international and corporate partnerships.

Vivek shares DU’s commitment to innovation,” said Chopp. “He understands what has traditionally helped business schools succeed, and he has a vision for what they need to succeed in the future.”
“With Vivek’s background in engaging with corporations to build pathways for internships and professional experiences, these relationships will open up critical opportunities for students and help DU’s business school become even more established in this region,” said Haefner. Each of the 12 deans at DU report to the Provost.
Choudhury takes the reins at the Daniels College of Business as the school enjoys prestigious rankings, particularly among its MBA programs, which have received wide recognition from a number of publications.
Choudhury earned his master’s in business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his PhD in Management, Information Systems from UCLA. He studied accounting as an undergraduate at India’s University of Calcutta.

Choudhury and his wife Lori Barth Choudhury, formerly a librarian and coordinator of e-learning at the University of Cincinnati Libraries, will relocate to Denver this summer. The University of Denver community extends them and their sons, Sanjay and Devin, a warm welcome.
