Meet the Class of 2030
DU’s newest students arrive with diverse backgrounds, impressive academic achievements, and a head start on their college coursework.
From across the country and around the world, the University of Denver’s newest students have arrived on campus to start their first quarter on Sept. 8.
Approximately 1,110 first-year students settled into their new home on Sept. 1, officially beginning their journey as the Class of 2030. Coming from 46 states and 30 countries and representing 751 different high schools, they bring with them a wide range of experiences, perspectives, and academic accomplishments.
Two-thirds of the incoming class comes from outside Colorado, with 59% traveling more than 500 miles to reach campus. Students from the West make up the largest portion of the class at 18%, followed by the Midwest at 16%, the Northeast at 14%, the Southwest at 10%, and the Southeast at 5%. International students account for another 4%.
The Class of 2030 reflects the diversity of backgrounds and experiences that make up the larger DU community. Nearly one-third of incoming students—32%—identify as members of an ethnic group other than white, while 18% are the first in their families to attend college.
And while they are just beginning their DU experience, many arrive with significant college-level preparation already under their belts. Sixty percent of the incoming class enters DU with college credit, collectively bringing more than 18,000 quarter hours of credit earned through Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and college courses—the equivalent of about 4,500 courses.
That preparation means 11% of the incoming class will begin DU with second year standing.
Their academic achievements also stand out. About 460 students, or 41% of the class, earned a high school GPA of 4.0 or higher.
The Class of 2030 officially began making DU their new home during move-in day on Sept. 1, when Chancellor Jeremy Haefner welcomed families alongside student and staff volunteers who helped newcomers settle into campus life.
Welcome to DU, Class of 2030!
