To the DU community,

Today marks the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Many years have passed but the effects of that devastating act of violence are long-lasting.

Each year, we solemnly reflect on the victims and the weight of grief carried by their friends, colleagues and loved ones. We also reflect on the heroism and bravery we witnessed in the days that followed: The first-responders who undertook an unimaginable task—many of whom sacrificed their own health to save others. We reflect on the men and women in our armed forces who served then and now and whose lives were changed and put in greater peril since that day.

Today, DU will toll its bells 20 times at 6:46 a.m. (MT), marking the time when the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City (8:46 a.m. ET). It is a Sunday, but please, take time during your busy weekend to pause in a moment of solemnity and gratitude.

Sincerely,
