First-year students and their families packed the University of Denver campus on Monday for move-in day. Roughly 1,380 students representing 48 states and 20 countries will start class at DU next week. The only states not represented in this year’s incoming class are Mississippi and North Dakota. In addition to the first-year students, 194 transfer students will start this fall at DU.

A majority of the incoming class traveled more than 500 miles to come to Denver, with 72% coming from out of state.

The University continues to recruit the best possible students. The average high school grade point average for the Class of 2023 is 3.72. The first-year students also averaged ACT scores of 28 and SAT scores of 1256.

This year’s class of new students is equally diverse as other recent first-year classes, with 23% identifying as an ethnic minority other than white. First-generation students make up 19% of the class, while 10% are legacy students who have had a sibling or parent attend DU before them.
